What is ADOBO HOEDOWN?????
The BAHAla na Tribe & Friends is hosting an all-ages, community event/fundraiser to benefit Tropical Storm "Washi" aka Bagyong "Sendong" victims in the Philippines.
In the Filipino language Tagalog, the word "baha" means flood, "la na" is Tagalog slang for "no more". The word "bahalana" means "leave it up to God".
Tropical Storm “Washi” aka “Sendong” devastated the southern part of the Philippines about a week before Christmas on December 16, 2011 leaving a ravaged trail of at least 1,268 dead; over 6,071 injured with hundreds still missing and affecting over a million people according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Managment Council of the Philippines. This storm is considered to be the deadliest and most destructive storm in history for the southern region of the Philippines and its death toll has surpassed that of Typhoon “Ketsana” aka Typhoon “Ondoy” in 2009.
When we heard this news, we were compelled to help the victims. The original "Adobo Hoedown" raised over $16,671 plus several other donations to benefit the victims of Typhoon "Ketsana" aka "Ondoy" in 2009. The devastating news of this recent storm garnered the support of doing another "Adobo Hoedown" to benefit the victims. The BAHAla na Tribe, friends, family and supporters have all united to to bring another fun and exciting event to raise money to send directly to the Rotary Club of Cagayan De Oro.
In commemoration of the Philippines’ “People Power” Revolution Anniversary, a collaboration of young Filipino-Americans from the BAHAla na Tribe (creators of the original Adobo Hoedown) with friends from the Filipino Young Professionals, War’Hous Visual Studios, MyFitness Houston, Houston Helping CDO, the Kracker Nuttz, “H” Stands for Help, All The Way Live, the Norma Benzon Foundation through the Greater Houston Community Foundation (GHCF) and a few other friends have united together to organize another “H-town Adobo Hoedown” entitled “Adobo Hoedown”- “People Power Party” on Saturday, February 25, 2012 to help raise funds for fellow Filipinos affected by Tropical Storm Washi aka Bagyong Sendong benefiting the Rotary Club of Cagayan De Oro.
The community has already collected over 150 boxes of goods and used clothing to be shipped to the Philippines, thanks to our local Filipino restaurants and businesses such as Houston Helping CDO and Pinoy Kargo.
We specially invite you and hope you can join us on this special day to enjoy the Filipino culture as we also help those less fortunate.

If laughter is medicine, comedian Joey Guila has your prescription. A complete entertainer on stage he takes you through a journey of Old School and New School with his act outs and accents.
His multicultural style of comedy hits home for all audiences, whether you watched his show in Hawaii or Hong Kong you left crying and his mission was complete. In 2003 Joey won the regional "Kings Of Comedy" competition ran by Latham Entertainment who is the founder of "The Original Kings Of Comedy" which include, Bernie Mac,Cedric The Entertainer, D.L. Hughley and Steve Harvey. His tour with Latham Entertainment included such venues as The MGM Grand in Las Vegas and the Universal Amphitheatre in Hollywood.
Joey has been featured on G4 Tech TV, VH1, Showtime and on P Diddy's Bad Boys Of Comedy.Joey has hosted 2 T.V. Shows on Myx TV called "Thats My Jam" and “Myx Rated”. His past guests on his shows have been P Diddy, Justin Bieber, PitBull, Boyz II Men, Naughty By Nature, Jason Derulo and Amerie to name a few. He is currently the headliner on "The Filipino Kingz” coming to a city near you.
Entertainment by Houston's own Filipino-American Talents
Ira Perez is an up-and-coming female Singer and Songwriter. She is also an accomplished amazing Guitarist and Pianist. She has performed throughout Houston and Austin for the past several years. Ira is currently attending the University of Texas at Austin. Based on her academic achievements, Ira was automatically accepted to University of Texas and will study Political Science and minor in Music. At only 16 years of age, Ira began writing her own music and was soon performing throughout the Houston, Dallas, College Station and Austin Areas. Ira has won many awards. In 2010 she was voted “Best Female Vocals” by fans in the Houston Press Music Awards contest. She also competed and won the Kollaboration Houston Asian/Pacific Rim talent showcase. Ira is no stranger to the studio. She has recorded approximately 15 songs, mostly originals, and is currently in the process of recording & finishing another album. Many of Ira’s performances have been recorded and can been seen on YouTube.
The ArchiTEKSThe ArchiTEKS Dance Crew are the reators of original foundation Through Experience, Knowledge & Skills. This highly acclaimed dance crew is internationally reknown for their creativity and initricate moves in their choreography. Some of the members have been featured on MTV's "America's Best Dance Crew" and travel all over the United States and the world sharing their love and passion for dance.
Allan Rivera as "Manuel Pacquiao"
Allan Manuel is the Best Impressionist of World Famous Icon Manny Pacquiao. He has the Uncanny look and likeness of the best Pound for Pound Fighter in the World. His stage presence is professional and his body is chiseled in the likeness of Manny Pacquiao. He even has the tattoos to match. He trains and works out daily and is a student of Pacquiao. His mannerisms are duplicated and practiced daily of the Icon Manny Pacquiao. He is the closest thing you will get to Manny Pacquiao.
Sixteen year old Sugar Land native has over a million hits and over 8,700 subscribers on her You Tube page. Music has always been a part of her life with influences such as Adele and Alicia Keys. She is multi-talented in playing the piano, guitar and even the ukulele. Lauren’s musically inclined talent also excels in being a vocalist, performing in multiple places such as church, Austin High School’s choir and local community events. She even gives back to the community by volunteering her talent at nursing homes and charity events. Lauren also excels in school, being in the top percentile of her class and still manages to have a regular teenage girl life with her closest friends and family. This renaissance girl continues to keep everyone at the edge of their seat and anxious to see what’s next on her list of achievements. Sole Resonance
Sole Resonance is a Filipino band formed in 2005 in Houston, Texas. They are a group of young, fun-loving individuals who wants to express themselves through music. The band was formed by Kris Escoto, the current keyboardist with Princess Fazon (lead vocals) who shares the vocals with Guian Mirabueno (guitar), Japz Bagabagon (lead guitar), Jon Evangelista (bass guitar) and the dynamic Bobby Gonzales (drums). Sole Resonance plays a sultry sound compiled of Pop, R&B, Acoustic, Rock and OPM (Original Pilipino Music) . They have played throughout the Houston community and were one of the featured artists at the original Adobo Hoedown.
Jomel SumiraA native Hawaiian that goes to the University of Texas-Austin studying to become a pediatrician has been performing for years all throughout Hawaii and now in Texas. Her beautiful voice and talent on the ukele has allowed her to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York and led her to be a finalist at the Asian American Talent Show- Kollaboration Houston.
Gain Structure IncidentJust like any invention, the "Gain Structure Incident" was born in Houston, Texas out of necessity. Their songs were written at a time in their lives when being confrontational and verbally direct seemed to make life reach its tipping point. Music provided a back alley to escape and express the intensity of their then fragile relationships. With an eclectic influence of grunge, 90's pop rock and worship music, front man - Federico V. and lead guitarist – James B. wrote a small collection of songs that describe what they call the pick-up, hook-up, break-up and make-up soundtrack.Three years ago, the group decided to play their last show in downtown Houston due to former guitar player Nick's decision to move to LA to be with the woman of his dreams. Since then, lead guitar player, James continued to play with worship bands all over Texas and with featured band, Sole Resonance. His riffs have also been featured in a local radio station ID’s jingle. Federico started a family and picked up photography as a new creative outlet. Former bass player Junjun B. pursued a career in the medical field and drummer Scott D. went forward with his semi-pro golf career.For the Adobo Hoedown, TGSI has enlisted drummer, Rodney Quindoy, an accomplished drummer whose talent has been showcased in multiple musical acts in Philadelphia, San Francisco and Houston areas. He was also a former musical instructor at the Houston Percussion Center. Jon Evangelista, bassist of Sole Resonance has also graciously offered his amazing talent to bring back TGSI's songs to life.Even though every musician participating in this incarnation of the band are also active members of other music groups, their natural and insatiable need to make a difference and to serve the community have brought them together to revive and rearrange a few of TGSI's songs. Every single one of them is deeply honored to be part of this great cause.

Philippine Cultural performance byDJ'sThe “Krackernuttz” were founded by two brothers who shared the vision of integrating culture into their music and entertainment, DJ KleanCutt and DJ Baby Jae introduced the KrackerNuttz to the city of Houston and it's community in 1998. Their passio n f or turntables and music soon became a strong bond that was eventually felt by friends, family, and also the community who danced and enjoyed listening to their vivid and creative mixes.
Realizing their potential in the music industry, the size of the Kr ackerNuttz organization grew in just six months with the addition of long-time friend and radio veteran DJ Ron EG. Soon after, the trio made their way onto the airwaves djing for a number of radio stations then finally landing a gig on the historically acclaimed "97.9 the BOX" and currently of "Hot 95.7. The KNuttz hit the Houston scene in full force; incorporating their turntables, tricks, and scratches into all of their radio mixes.
Together, the three easily accumulated over 10 years of experience in radio and promotions. The Kracker Nuttz have also made a number of guest appearances for shows and special events, and are constantly asked to DJ in some of the top venues in Houston and its neighboring cities and states. The industry has defnitely taken notice to the group's crazy antics, skills and talents. As a matter of fact, in the past the KrackerNuttz have been honored to entertain several events such as premiere parties for movies; host and DJ celebrity parties and concerts. They have also opened up for several legendary Hip-Hop groups such as De La Soul, Common, and the Pharcyde to name a few.
Booth Pimps: DJ Ebonix & DJ Johnny JThe infamous Booth Pimps have been a staple in the nightclub scene and music industry for several years with a culmination of several talents they can be seen in some of the Hottest nightclubs in the city, state, US and the world.
DJ Ebonix can be heard every week on Houston’s #1 Hip-Hop and R&B station 97.9 The Box. However, he’s not just another radio DJ. He is a regular saturday resident at Houston’s legendary Rich’s Nightclub. While Hip-hop maybe his specialty, Ebonix is known to dazzle his turntablism with Rock, Pop, and Dance.
DJ Johnny J is a pioneer of the Houston club scene and has been rockin’ the clubs and radio for two decades. A former radio air-personality, Mix show DJ, and official Rocket’s DJ, Johnny is known for his eclectic and energetic sounds. His ability to spin Live Mash-ups without the use of pre-produced ones makes Johnny special. There is no question why he is the most recognized DJ in the Houston Scene. Along with long list of A-List Clientele, he currently holds weekly residencies at some of Houston’s top nightclubs.
DJ Seduction of World EntertainmentHe's been in the music industry for over 20 years and has been known to be one of the most talented and versatile DJs in the city. He's known to make a crowd move and have fun from baby showers, debuts, partys, weddings, clubs, concerts and even at funerals! He can be seen playing at the legendary Thursdays at Club Metropolis or at BLU in Sugar Land Town Center.
Josh ZuluBAHAla na Tribe member, Zulu Creative Chief and Soular Grooves DJ. Josh has been artistically blending his flavor of house and funky soulful vibes for over 15 years. His involvement in the Houston music scene includes co-hosting Steel Lounge Underground at the CAMH and residency on the award winning Soular Grooves radio show on KPFT 90.1FM.

His choice of work is PopArt by recreating cartoons he grew up watching and applying his own style. Known to be a very artistic individual since he was a child, Dandee found his love for art at an early age. He has been drawing and creating even before he could read and write.
With no formal training, Dandee has been learning on his own by using various techniques and applications. He started experimenting with paint on canvas from only a short period of time of 2006 and quickly fell in love. Painting is now his choice of vehicle to drive his artistic expression. His inspirations come from great works of KAWS, Burton Morris, Roy Lichtenstein, David Lachapelle and Andy Warhol.
Dandee's philosophy in painting is to find his masterpiece by creating high quality work with minimal imperfections while keeping his inner childhood alive. By gazing at his current pieces, you can tell he cares about his creations and his road to perfection is insight. His work has been praised with having the cleanest lines and paint application with no visible brush strokes. His paintings are a must see in person.
His current venture is creating a very successful art gallery called War'Hous Visual Studios where he currently creates his new paintings. Only been opened since April 2010, the mudslide of success and publications such as the Houston Chronicle, 29-95, Houston Press and New York Times soon followed quickly. He was also chosen as Houston Press Reader's Choice Artist of the Year 2011.
